It begins at home!

Bangalore sure lacks the much needed infrastructure as Calvin points out. Everyone breaks rule to the extend your moral values support. If you see/talk more about the corrupt guys up there, see more and more of that dirt, you fall prey to it. The *change* is right in our heads. Here is some things that gives me kick:

1. Stop for a red signal esp. if you are in Car. Ofcourse, when a cop is not around. You'll see other people stop too. If you drive away, others would follow.
2. Give pedestrians way. They might sure smile back at you.
3. If you break a rule, pay full fine. A few hundreds more would go into the system instead of the neighbourhood wine shop.
4. Do some positive blogging - talk about solutions rather than the problem. If there seems to exist none, there defn. is one.
5. Create awareness - if you are that nice guy who does not accept a polythene at a store and rather carry your shoulder bag always - pass on the tip to others. Keep couple of jute/paper bags under your car seat.
6. Feel the pride of an army man by obeying simple rules. You'll be a jawan for the rest of your life.

So lets share out some great experiences. Let's talk about 'us and the city' rather than 'they and the city'. Enjoy life!

By the way, I made chocolate pudding this sunday. It came out quite well. Lots more cooking to happen this week ahead! Love the cook-and-eat concept!

Shalin,
You are 100% right on following those traffic rules. I have been driving in the US for 8 months now and have virtually never driven in India. I was constant pillion rider and moral support for my roommate Bijesh :-)
What amazes me is the discipline that we have here in the US.Last week there was a power failure here [yes America also has blackouts] and none of the traffic signals were working. But there was no confusion at all. People followed the first come first go funda and it was smooth albeit a bit slow. I am amazed at the discipline they have in this nation. If someone ever commits a violation, you can bet that he is a mexican. Desis are damn disciplined too because of the fear of the Mamu.
Talking about which, the police here are so so decent. They dont abuse you or mistreat you when you are pulled up. They come and chat with you in a nice manner and give you a hefty fine but no harsh words...

And nice to see you improving your culinary skills. Post some recipes yaar....

hey shalin
u are one of the few guys who sees remedies rather than cribbing on system.
Your solution are very simple and can be brought in practise day to day life.
however there are few more points i wish to add.. i hope this wouldnt be spam in this awesome blog.

1. VOTE... every one should vote. bcz most of intellecutals are too lazy / too busy to vote thinking either
a. one vote dont affect much on the over all result.(but what they dont see is that such one votes added together makes a huge diff).
b. thinking all politicians are corrupt.(but if there seems none.. there will be one..)

3. Never drink and drive and never cross speed limit.

good post man..
waiting for more such post
regards
vinayak
