Yellow Taxi

Heading East: Part 1

"Shalin - look; yellow taxi!" exclaimed karthik (kk).

We were looking at an array of yellow taxi's queued at the pre-paid taxi stand right outside the Kolkota Airport. They wore 100% yellow paint unlike taxi's in other cities. I was just about comment on it "this reminds me of New York". But I knew karthik would have given me a dirty stare on that; for the fact that we landed up in Kolkota from Chennai not NY and I had never been to NY. KK pulled out his camera in no time.

Click! (not the mouse click)

We began our journey by hiring a taxi to Vidyasagar Sethu (Sethu means bridge in bengali). It's a majestic suspension bridge quite similar to the Howrah Bridge. The view was breath-taking but the sad part was we weren't allowed to click. We soon headed towards the Victoria Memorial.

It's huge, beautiful and 'must see' in kolkota. We took a train the same evening to head to our next destination - Darjeeling!

shalinjain.com runs on MT 2.661

Here goes my first post on this new Blog.

I have moved my blog from blogger service to MoveableType (MT). MoveableType is a much more advanced blogging/cms system. It wasn't easy installing it on a Windows server (for me) but my friend Hari (Geek!) helped me through it and installed MT 2.661. Thanks Hari.

Hope you guys like the new blog, keep the comments coming in!

Heading East

It was a fine saturday evening. I called up karthik.

Me: KK, wassup?
KK: Still at work.
ME: Let's explore the east. Let's head to darjeeling.
KK: Okay. Let's go!

We have planned up a trip in mere 3 days, we are flying to calcutta (Kolkota) tomorrow (11th) morning. We are all excited about exploring the east. We would be heading to Darjeeling and Gangtok. We are geared up with two Nikon SLR cameras, a sony handycam, Nutella (Hazelnut Spread for the stomach), a disc man and lots of money ofcourse. One thing that I am not carrying this time is brainy (my dell inspiron 8100), after all we geeks want to make this trip more like a 'holiday'.

It's a short 5 day trip with zeal to explore the best of the east. Experiences and pictures when I return!

Why did the chicken cross the road?

I found this interesting question on some geek's (Roland Ahlborn) personal website. Some replies to the question are posted below. Click here for the complete list of answers.

I found it pretty interesting and came up with my version of it. Let me know if you have answer to it, if yes, post it in the comments area. :)

EINSTEIN: Whether the chicken crossed the road or the road moved beneath the chicken depends on your frame of reference.

SADDAM HUSSEIN: This was an unprovoked act of rebellion and we were quite justified in dropping 50 tons of nerve gas on that chicken.

BILL GATES: I have just released the new ChickenOffice2000, which will not only cross roads, but will lay eggs, file your important documents, balance your checkbook, and spy on your neighbors for your benefit.

BUDDHA: Asking this question denies your own chicken nature.

KARL MARX: It was an historical inevitability.

MOSES: And God came down from the Heavens, and He said unto the chicken, "Thou shalt cross the road." And the chicken crossed the road, and there was much rejoicing.

Shalin Jain: The chicken saw the Zebra crossing.

Post your answer in the comments area.
